Featuring over 100 juried exhibitors from Maine and the greater Northeast the show is dedicated to showcasing a wide array of high-quality craft work in the following media categories: basketry, ceramics, decorative and wearable fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, paper, printmaking, stone, and wood.

In addition to the vibrant mix of fine craft exhibitors the event will feature demonstrations, outreach booths spotlighting New England and Portland arts organizations craft guilds, and schools by invitation.

2024 Show Jurors

Exhibitors of the Portland Fine Craft Show are selected using a jury process by three members of the New England craft community with the assistance of Juried Art Services.

Patrick Coughlin – Associate Professor & Program Chair of Ceramics at Maine College of Art & Design

Patrick Coughlin is an interdisciplinary American artist. He has exhibited work in China, Italy, Japan, and throughout the United States. Patrick is an Associate Professor and Program Chair of Ceramics at Maine College of Art & Design.. Prior to Maine Patrick Worked in Jingdezhen, the ceramic center of China. He was an assistant in the design studio, working with local artisans to create ceramic designs for a global market and managing the Education Center, facilitating international exchange and instruction.

Patrick has attended residencies in Japan, Italy, and the United States. In addition, he has been a visiting lecturer at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea, and TAFA-Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in Tianjin, China. Patrick was a year-long resident artist for the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in NYC, a 2021 Fleisher Wind Challenge recipient, and was selected as a Windgate Visual Artist Fellow from The Center for Emerging Visual Artists.

Tanya Crane – Professor of the Practice, Metal SMFA at Tufts

Crane received her MFA in Metalsmithing + Jewelry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015, and her BFA in Metal from the State University of New York at New Paltz. Currently, Crane is a Professor of the Practice in Metals at the School Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts. She is the 2018 SNAG Emerging Artist selected to present at SOFA Chicago, the 2017 recipient of the Society of Arts and Crafts Artist Award, a Haystack Mountain School Artist Residency 2017 recipient, and a participant in the Smitten Forum Metalsmithing Residency at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico 2018. She exhibited her work in a solo exhibition, Tributaries: Polarity, Exposing the Tensity, at the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis, Tennessee. Her work was recently acquired for the Museum of Fine Arts Boston collection and the Stewart Foundation for Modern Design in Montreal, CN.

Anthony Anderson – Founder, Editor, Publisher of Maine Gallery + Studio Guide 

Anthony Anderson has been the editor and publisher of Maine Gallery + Studio Guide for 23 years. He is a University of Maine graduate with a BS in Communications. He lives and works in Lucerne-in-Maine with wife Suzanne Anderson, a jewelry designer for “Artful Home,” and a MECA grad. Anderson spent his early summers in Venice, in the shadow of the Guggenheim, and has been a life-long lover of art and beauty.

Kelsey Halliday Johnson – Executive Director of SPACE Gallery, Portland, ME  

Kelsey Halliday Johnson (she/they) has been working as SPACE’s Executive Director since 2017. For over fifteen years, Kelsey has worked as a presenter and curator with a consistent dedication for championing under-recognized artists and intersectional values.

Prior to SPACE, Kelsey worked in curatorial and advancement capacities for the James A. Michener Art Museum, Vox Populi Gallery, Locks Gallery, independent curator Marianne Bernstein, and her own independent multi-site curatorial projects; as well as gaining significant administrative experience at Blind Spot Magazine, the Penn Museum, and WPRB 103.3FM. Her curatorial work has been featured in Artforum, Art in America, and was a finalist for the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) Awards. Kelsey proudly started her career working art supply and photography retail for eight years.

She is a graduate of Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Wesleyan University, and has taught at a range of colleges and universities as well as Interlochen Arts Academy. Her writing has been published by the University of Pennsylvania Press, Locks Art Publications, Title Magazine, Performa, Studio Magazine from the Studio Museum in Harlem, Common Field, and Mural Arts Philadelphia, among others.

Awards for Best Booth Design and Best of Show will be juried by the 2023 Show Awards Juror and announced during the day via social media.

The People’s Choice Award will be selected from visitor ballots throughout the day and announced at 4 p.m. via social media. Vote for your favorite exhibitor at the Shop Maine Craft Information Booth #505.

APPLICATION DETAILS: 2024 PORTLAND FINE CRAFT SHOW

The Portland Fine Craft Show is an outdoor, one-day show featuring 100+ juried exhibitors from Maine and the greater Northeast exhibiting fine craft in the following media categories: basketry, ceramics, fiber-decorative, fiber-wearable, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, paper, printmaking, stone and wood, as well as outreach booths featuring New England and Portland arts organizations, international artists new to Maine, guilds and schools by special invitation, and sponsor booths.

The Portland Fine Craft Show remains one of the only Maine craft shows open to artists not living in Maine, and has a reputation for being well-organized and of high quality, with high attendance

Applicants apply via Juried Art Services.

Applicants need to provide:

  • Four quality images representing the work that will be exhibited.
  • One booth shot image.
  • A one paragraph statement. The statement should include information about the artist’s career, experience, or technical skill used to create the submitted artwork.

Notification Date: The jury will occur at the end of February and applicants will be notified of their status on March 1, 2024.

MEDIA/PRODUCTS NOT ACCEPTED

  • Commercial manufactured art.
  • Work assembled (wholly or in part) from commercially available kits.
  • Two-dimensional art such as paintings and photographs. The only exception to this exclusion are original handmade prints made using traditional analog techniques. Any digital or reproduction prints such as giclee are not allowed.
  • Production work by third-party printers, commercially printed items or embellished commercially made objects such as t-shirts, note cards etc.
  • Mixed media work that uses paint and canvas as its primary medium.
  • Mixed media work that is primarily assemblage.
  • Commercially screen printed material, commercial etchings, web or sheet fed offset printed work.
  • Works that use materials acquired from the killing of endangered species, elephant/mammoth ivory, including fossilized ivory.
  • Dried or silk flower arrangements.
  • Soaps, personal care, candles.
  • Specialty foods.
  • Buy-sell items.

MCA Members rate for 10×10 in-line booth: $215.00
Non-Member rate for 10×10 in-line booth: $245.00

Info: 

  • Exhibitors receive their booth assignments in early summer
  • EZ-up (or equivalent) tents are required
  • Tent weights required, 40lbs per corner
  • 10ft x 10ft spaces
  • Double or triple booths, and prime/corner booths are available
  • No electricity or WIFI available
  • Booths may not be shared. The only exception is for artists representing a guild or arts organization (3 or more artists minimum).
