About the Center for Maine Craft

In 2006, the Maine Crafts Association (MCA), in collaboration with a consortium of Maine craft organizations, strategized the further establishment of Maine as a national destination for craft. The MCA, with dedicated supporters and funders, established the Center for Maine Craft in 2008, a successful year-round fine craft gallery located within the West Gardiner Turnpike Travel Plaza. The Center now welcomes over 136,000 visitors per year and showcases the work of over 300 artist-members of the MCA.

A decade later, the Maine Crafts Association established a second retail location, Maine Craft Portland: A retail gallery + resource center in the historic Mechanic’s Hall of downtown Portland, Maine. Opened in July 2018, Maine Craft Portland promotes craft in Maine through exhibitions and public programming, and directly supports over 140 Maine craft artists through sales of their work.

For Artists: Our Jury Process

Artists and businesses interested in selling their work at the Center for Maine Craft or Maine Craft Portland must participate in the gallery jury process. The galleries conduct two juries: fine craft and complementary products. Applicants must live and work in Maine at least 6 months per year to qualify. Click the link below to read more and make a jury appointment.
