POSITION TITLE: Shop Maine Craft & Maine Crafts Association Executive Director

REPORTS TO: Board of Directors

SALARY: $85,000 – $95,000 based on qualifications and experience

LOCATION: Executive Director will live in Maine. There is flexibility to work remotely, from our Portland office at Running with Scissors or other locations. There is an expectation to attend/visit (& travel when necessary) program sites and events, regularly.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Maine Craft Association (MCA) and Shop Maine Craft (SMC) are seeking a full-time Executive Director who is passionate about Maine craft and its creators. This position answers to a volunteer board of directors and includes oversight and management of both MCA and SMC. 

The Executive Director provides overall leadership and management of MCA and SMC and works in collaboration with the board, staff, funders, and partners. The director is the primary point of contact for both organizations.

GENERAL ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY

MCA was established in 1983. MCA builds upon Maine’s rich craft traditions by nurturing a vibrant, supportive, inclusive craft community with educational programs and resources. We accomplish our mission by offering programs and initiatives which engage, connect and support Maine craft artists with one another and the larger community. MCA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

SMC is a c-corporation created through the restructuring of MCA as of January 1, 2022. SMC manages the programs developed by MCA, which directly focus on shopping: galleries in Portland and Gardiner, several shows, markets, and e-commerce. The craft artist resources, retail sales, fine craft shows, and special events are designed to support Maine’s creative economy by creating income opportunities for craft artists. SMC profits directly support individual craft artists, as well as, MCA.

Please note: Shop Maine Craft, a c-corporation serves as the employer to all staff, including the Executive Director, whose duties include those for SMC and MCA, a non-profit.

Center for Maine Craft, Manager

REPORTS TO: Shop Maine Craft Manager

SALARY: $40,000

SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position and requires some weekend work
LOCATION: This is a 100% onsite position at the Center for Maine Craft in West Gardiner, Maine

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Shop Maine Craft is seeking a full-time gallery manager of the Center for Maine Craft. The gallery manager serves as the face and voice of the Center for Maine Craft, the most significant income generating program area of Shop Maine Craft. The manager is the primary contact for vendors, customers, staff and other stakeholders. The manager is responsible for meeting retail sales goals, meeting the needs of various stakeholders and is most guided by serving Maine’s craft artists through the sales of their work in this high traffic location visited by over 140,000 Mainers and tourists each year.

The manager leads their dedicated, professional, trained, sales-focused and friendly staff by example. The manager represents both Shop Maine Craft (SMC) and Maine Crafts Association (MCA) and is responsible for communicating the vision, initiatives and opportunities of each organization to our constituencies.
