A Garden Within reflects the interior landscapes we each carry. Viewers are invited to touch and hold these pieces, to spend time with their textures and forms, and to connect with a garden that exists both physically and within.
This work is about slowing down and noticing the quiet details in the green spaces around us. Fleeting moments of texture, light, and growth are translated into porcelain, where something delicate becomes strong and enduring. These green spaces are carried within us, offering a sense of natural rhythm in an increasingly artificial world. The forms and textures of the exterior gradually move inward, into our homes, our memories, and our inner lives, shaping how we experience the world.
Each piece begins on the wheel, where the porcelain form takes root. As the clay firms, the surface is carved, dotted, imprinted, rolled, and stretched, with layers of texture added by hand. The work unfolds slowly, following a natural rhythm, growing, shifting, and developing until it reaches its final form.
Porcelain balances strength, delicacy, and versatility. Colored slip, underglaze, and glaze are applied to interior and exterior surfaces, and the pieces are fired in a soda-fired gas kiln. In this process, sodium bicarbonate vaporizes at over 2350°F and settles onto the textured surfaces, interacting in unpredictable ways that enhance natural variation.
Through this work, the quiet beauty of nature is preserved and carried into everyday life. Each piece becomes a touchstone for reflection, inviting a pause, a closer look, and a moment of connection, reminding us that the textures, rhythms, and growth of the natural world can live within us, in our homes, and in the ways we move through the day.

Guenola is a Maine‑based ceramic artist working under the name Textured Porcelain. She creates one‑of‑a‑kind porcelain pottery that emphasizes surface, texture, informed by the sensations of nature and the seacoast.
In addition to her studio practice, she teaches pottery classes at Portland Pottery in Portland, Maine, sharing her love of clay with the wider community.
Born and raised in the northern suburbs of Chicago by French parents. She spends every summer visiting her family on the Brittany coast, where she fell in love with the Atlantic shoreline, a landscape that continues to inspire her work.
Guenola enjoys spending time with her husband, Kirk, and their friends and family, cuddling with their cat, Mouse, playing board games and tackling puzzles, winter swimming, warm-water snorkeling, savoring delicious food, sipping creative cocktails, traveling, watching movies, and taking in sunrises and sunsets. She also loves her students and has a deep, enduring passion for all things clay, as well as gardening and collecting far too many plants for their home.
Visitors are invited to carry this sense of quiet observation and connection beyond the gallery walls. In a fast-moving world, these works offer a gentle reminder to slow down, to notice, and to nurture the landscapes that sustain us. May each piece linger as a memory of touch, texture, and presence, encouraging a deeper awareness of the beauty woven into everyday life.
