“I use natural and dyed wood veneers to create landscapes and abstracts. Using a scalpel, each piece is cut and taped together while creating the piece. MDF is used as a substrate. The piece is glued to the the top, and another piece of veneer is sandwiched on the back maintain stability. A handcrafted hardwood frame completes it. Each piece is one of a kind, and inspires curiosity from each viewer.
In 2019 I felt the urge to continue to express myself artistically. As a woodworker I have always loved the aesthetics of wood; and I simply enjoy working with it. After experimenting with painting, I was indirectly inspired to begin working with wood veneers by my wife, who is an avid knitter. I became envious of how portable her craft was. She could pack it up and take it with her everywhere. Woodworking tools are not coming with me on a weekend at camp. But now with my trusty hardshell vintage Samsonite briefcase, I can tote around everything I need to work on the go.”
