INHABITED GLOW
On view July 31 – September 21, 2026
Located at the Center for Maine Craft in West Gardiner, ME
Inspired by the rugged coastline, forests, and botanical landscapes of Maine, Lisa Ferreira Jones creates luminous sculptural lighting that transforms nature into objects of quiet wonder. In INHABITED GLOW, each handcrafted work is both sculpture and light source, a delicate balance of strength and softness that invites viewers to experience the natural world in an intimate new way.
“Growing up on Maine’s coast has greatly influenced my creativity. Since graduating from the Maine College of Art in 2002 with a major in metal smithing and jewelry making, I have been making my own papers and combining them with my botanically sculpted metal forms. I observe aspects of the natural line formations in the coastline, mountains and plants and bring my studies to the studio, where I express my voice of nature by translating my inspirations into metal forms. I solder or braze these structures together to use with my own handmade papers which I have created”

A graduate of the Maine College of Art, Jones combines her background in metalsmithing with an extraordinary papermaking practice. She harvests botanical materials from Maine to create richly textured handmade papers, which are wrapped around intricate hand-soldered frameworks of copper, brass, and steel. Once illuminated, these organic forms become glowing cocoons, casting warm light through layers of fibers, leaves, and natural textures.
Every piece is entirely one of a kind. Just as no two plants grow alike, no sheet of handmade paper or sculptural form is ever repeated. The resulting works celebrate imperfection, growth, and the quiet beauty found throughout the natural landscape.

“I welcome custom work whether it is residential or commercial in lighting, sculpture and jewelry. The mediums I work in are copper, brass, steel, sterling silver, gold, wood and my own handmade papers.
I am a Guild member of The Maine Crafts Association. I have wholesale accounts and I have sold work at several fine craft shows in the northeast such as; The Maine Crafts Association’s Guild Fine Craft shows, Paradise City Arts Festivals in Massachusetts, The Fine Furnishings Show in Rhode Island, as well as The Artrider shows in Morristown and Lyndhurst. I have my work across the United States in both residential and commercial environments.”
INHABITED GLOW offers a collection of lighting that celebrates the connection between functional design and fine art, bringing the essence of the outdoors into interior spaces. Through each illuminated sculpture, Jones pays homage to the enduring rhythms of nature and reminds us that light itself can become a living, organic presence.
You are invited to join us at the closing Reception for INHABITED GLOW, held at the Center for Maine Craft, on Saturday September 19, from 2:00pm – 5:00pm.
