The Fourth World
Portland, Maine
“I have always had a passion for creating. I taught myself to knit as a teenager, and then later went on to learn silversmithing and goldsmithing, weaving, felting, and dyeing. I love to create textiles using natural dyes made from plants, earth pigments, and rust for a more sustainable planet. I make textiles the old fashioned way, by hand and with love and attention, giving each piece it’s own unique energy and meaning.
I love to use local plants, flowers, and teas to make my dyes. I work with all types of wools, silks, linens, and cottons to make hand dyed and hand felted textiles. I like to add recycled fibers to my work such as cottons and silks from vintage saris and kimonos. I also love to print and dye recycled clothing with plants.
My inspiration is found in the beauty of the natural world around me. Spending time in nature has become a vital part of my creative process both physically and mentally. In particular, I am inspired by trees and forests. I find the landscape of the forest to be inspirational, full of texture and amazing flora and fauna. I use many natural objects that I find on the forest floor in my art. These objects I see and gather and the places I have been tell their own stories. I am interested in showing the importance and renewability of the natural world and all its gifts to mankind; there is no limit to the possibilities of how nature can be harnessed to create original, breathtaking textile art”.
