Rock Knobs
Marie Locke
South Portland, Maine
Marie Locke grew up in Bangor and spent childhood summers on Little Cranberry Island. She came to Portland to study oceanography and moored her boat at Willard Beach in South Portland, where she ultimately settled after purchasing a 1920’s era bungalow. Locke began creating the knobs for her kitchen cabinets out of rocks she found on the beach while renovating her home. Her gift of creating meaningful living spaces blossomed from here through the encouragement of friends, and she has continued to sell her handcrafted beach rock knobs throughout New England. Locke now owns a decorative-painting business, Ralff & Sons, and she produces her own line of handmade beach-rock cabinet knobs and platters.
