THE CLEVER CUP, 2022
MCA Members Invitational Exhibition
Our annual member’s mug exhibition, The Clever Cup, returns in 2022! Formerly hosted at the Center for Maine Craft as a spring event, this exhibition now will be hosted this coming holiday season at Maine Craft Portland!
Shop Maine Craft will present its annual invitational exhibition of one-of-a-kind, extraordinary and beautiful drinking vessels & prints in MAINE CRAFT PORTLAND, Nov 4 – Dec 31, 2022. MCA Members are invited to submit work for exhibition and sale. These can be your signature, your strangest or your most clever, functional and food-safe, for sale, a mug or cup vessel!
You will be required to submit a minimum of 3 mugs for this show.
As a craft artist, what are the most essential qualities of a perfect mug? We, and our patrons, would love to know. Please consider these factors when creating a piece for the show.
Working in print and/or textile media and want to be involved in the Clever Cup show? We are also looking for uniquely “clever” and authentic mug-related images and designs! This could be a cup, teapot, spoon, coffee press, etc.–anything that revolves around your daily teatime or morning coffee routine.
Print & textile guidelines:
All pieces must be printed fully by hand. We aren’t looking for digitally printed reproductions.
For flat prints – Maximum size of frameable image should not exceed 11” by 14”. Framing is not required, but it is necessary if you would like to have your work included in our wall gallery display. Unframed prints are welcomed as well (as multiples of a framed design or on their own). These must be contained in a plastic/cellophane slip to protect the piece, with enclosed artist information.
For textiles/ other homewares – Measurement parameters don’t apply to printed homewares, tea towels, or other fiber pieces. Textile pieces must be packaged appropriately for sale in retail galleries, also including necessary artist information.
MCA | SMC also extends an invitation to a selection of members in the print category to contribute wall art, and other unique art pieces to display with the traditional ceramic work. We welcome submissions and ideas for items in this category! Quantities to be delivered will be considered based on style and price point, etc. of an individual’s proposed work(s).
All applicants must be an Emerging or Professional member of the Maine Crafts Association and juried into SHOP Maine Craft galleries to apply for this exhibition.
