Ross fulfilled his dream to immerse himself in crafts and arts when he joined Maine Craft Portland in the summer of 2021. He spent most of his career in journalism, working for The Associated Press and public radio. But fiber arts are his passions and he’s a dedicated (maybe obsessed?) knitter and weaver, an occasional dabbler in needle felting, and a soapmaker. Ross was inspired in particular by his mother and his maternal grandmother – who was a talented craftswoman but would never have described herself that way – and still uses and treasures the left-handed sewing shears she left for him. When he’s not marveling at the incredible work at Maine Craft Portland, he can be found on a bicycle or a pair of cross-country skis or in his kayak paddling the waters around Peaks Island where he lives with his husband and two dogs.
