Sculptor Anne Alexander creates realism studies of natural specimens modeled in clay. Finished with colorful glazes that fill the ripples and indentations on its hand carved form, this mussel sculpture is a larger-than-life model of the many mollusc shells found on Maine’s shores.

Anne Alexander
Windham, Maine

Anne Alexander lives and creates her sculpture from wood, clay, and stone in the historic mill town village of South Windham, Maine located along the Presumpscot River. She exhibits her smaller scale sculpture in galleries and her larger, human size, works in exterior sited exhibits throughout New England and beyond. In the year of 2020, Ms. Alexander created work as an apprentice alongside master sculptor Thomas Berger. The apprenticeship was facilitated by the Maine Crafts Association in partnership with the Maine Arts Commission, with generous funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Anne is a teaching artist who worked as an art teacher in public and private schools for over twenty years. She currently teaches drawing, sculpture, ceramic, and alabaster carving workshops to children and adults.
