A Bailey Island Girl Remembers | Janet Freeman Baribeau

A warm, wonderful historical memoir taken from the author’s memories of growing up on a small Casco Bay island in Harpswell, Maine. She writes her personal stories and those of her family. From lobster fishermen to captains and owners of a fleet of swordfish vessels. The Linscott branch of her ancestry set up housekeeping on Great Island and was listed as one of the Pioneer Settlers of Harpswell in the 1700’s. As you take this journey with the author you’ll feel the love she has for Bailey Island and the folks who once lived there, and the way of life they shared.

Janet Freeman Baribeau grew up amongst her extended family. That family extended to her neighbors who were¬†her family and to all the other Island people who cared and looked out for one another as a family would. Baribeau’s long line of maternal Harpswell ancestors and her love for the people of Bailey Island and their stories prompted the writing of this book. From her personal memories she’s tried to show and share a way of life that is no more for all those who wonder what is was like to grow up on a small island in Maine.
